Lack of Affordable Housing

Affordable housing is a major challenge for communities nationwide, and Vanderburgh an Warrick County are no exception.

In 2018, CAJE gained a commitment from Mayor Lloyd Winnecke to allocate $500,000 into Evansville’s Affordable Housing Fund (AHF). The AHF is a trust that provides financial support to low-income people wishing to purchase a home and to developers looking to construct or rehabilitate low-income housing. In 2019, the mayor committed to fund the AHTF with $500,000 every year for the rest of his term.

Every year, Evansville’s city council has to approve the allocation, CAJE members attend months of council meeting, sharing personal stories and urging council members to approve the requests. Due to our diligence, Evansville City Council has approved the $500,000 for the past three years.
